Our location is ideal for Montana fly fishing adventures. From the Yellowstone River in Yellowstone Park or Montana to the Madison River or the Missouri River and its 5,000 trout per mile, our Montana fly fishing guides and fly shop staff can put you in front of hungry trout every day of the year.

We fish during all four seasons - yes, we fish in winter, too! - and we fish the best hatches at the best times.

Most of our trips originate out of our fly fishing shop in Big Sky, Montana, or out of the Bozeman and Livingston areas. We also have guides on just about any piece of water in Montana. We have clients who hire us to host group trips to the Bighorn and Missouri Rivers. Clients use our guides to scout new waters or high alpine lakes. In fact, there isn't any trip we won't consider. Our custom trips are some of our favorites. For over thirty years, we've been arranging guides, lodging, and chefs on Montana's best fly fishing waters.

If you are an expert angler looking to challenge your skills matching the hatch or stalking skinny water fish with tiny dry flies, we can do that. Or if you want to learn or get the family into some fly fishing, our private pond and river access is ideal for the family. Our two hour family trips are great for just a taste of fly fishing.

This is our most popular guided fishing trip because it gives you a real taste of the Montana fly fishing experience in a short time. We’ve been doing these fishing trips longer than anyone else in Big Sky and feel our walk-and-wade fishing guides are some of the best in the West.

This trip is ideal for experienced anglers arriving into the area or local anglers who want to improve specific skills. With our reputation as having fly fishing guides who are also great teachers, this trip will give you what you need to fish on your own. If you are here for a week and plan to fish on your own, this trip will get you the skinny on our local waters. If you live here and want to learn a reach cast or truly understand what fishing an emerger is all about, this is the trip for you.

A Couple of Trios for Fun Fishing

With your professional guide you will spend one day walk-wade fishing the Gallatin River near Big Sky and Bozeman. On the following two days you will float fish one day on each of the Yellowstone and Upper or Lower Madison. The best months for this signature trip are April, early May, late June, July through October. Trip rate DOES NOT include lodging, license or gratuities, but we are happy to package those in if you’d like.

Ever wanted to explore the waters of Montana? How about fishing five rivers in five days?

At Gallatin River Guides we are known to often load up the truck and hit the road for a few days on end. We call these trips our Montana Trout Tours. We've teamed up with our sister outfitter, Montana Fishing Outfitters (MFO), to bring you the best of Montana's legendary waters. For over ten years, MFO has been guiding traveling anglers throughout Montana. In fact, the owner of Gallatin River Guides, Pat Straub, is a part-owner of MFO and may even join you on any of these tours.

Many of these trips are custom trips, but, here are a few of our favorites. These trips include guide services, lodging, transportation, and gear. Not included are breakfasts and dinners, gratuities, and fishing licenses and permits, and private water rod fees.

Big Sky, Bozeman, Helena, Missoula, Livingston Fly Fishing Trip

The Missouri River, the Gallatin, the Dearborn River, and a few other rivers and creeks too sacred to mention online . . . fish all of these in one-week. Basing out of Big Sky, Helena, Livingston, Bozeman, or Missoula, Montana, we are ready to fish "five rivers in five days." Based on conditions and time of year, we will create an itinerary of fishing locations that will entice your imagination and meet or succeed your expectations. This is also a great package for anglers with non-angling companions. Rates start at $2100 per person.

Freestone and Secret Creek Adventure

The Yellowstone River, the Madison River, the Gallatin River . . . need we say more? Not satisfied yet? How about taking you to some truly secret waters-small streams where solitude reigns supreme. In one week cast big dry flies to rambunctious trout, stalk sippers in a creek no wider than a leap, and float-fish some lesser known rivers. We pride ourselves in unique angling adventures in Montana. This angling adventure will prove just that-but with our personalized professionalism. Rates include guided flyfishing service, deluxe lodging, flies, gear, streamside lunch, and transportation to/from your hotel on fishing days. Rates start at $850 per person.

Spring Creek and Tailwater Adventure

Montana is blessed with a wide variety of spring creeks and tailwater fisheries, like the Missouri River and the Bighorn River. We are proud of our ability to offer guide services on most of Montana's storied waters. This week long angling expedition may take you to some of the following spring creeks and tailwater rivers: Armstrong's, Nelson's, and Ben Hart's spring creeks; McCoy's, Thompson's, and DePuy's spring creeks; the Bighorn River, Missouri River, and Beaverhead River. And perhaps a few others too special to mention online. Rates start at $1450 per person.

Wild West of the Divide Adventure

Montana's Westside of the Continental Divide is home to many of the state's best rivers-the Blackfoot River, Bitterroot River, and the Clark Fork River. Toss in several smaller waters and the town of Missoula and it is easy to see why so many people make western Montana their angling destination. Our guides working these rivers are some of our best and brightest, and this itinerary is quickly becoming one of our most popular. This is also a great package for anglers with non-angling companions. Rates include guided flyfishing service, deluxe lodging, flies, gear, streamside lunch, and transportation to/from your hotel on fishing days. Rates start at $1250 per person.

Learn To Fly Fish Package

In need of an easy package-trip for you or someone you know to get introduced to fly fishing? Here it is: The Gallatin and Missouri Rivers are ideally located for beginning anglers to learn and develop their fly fishing skills. Learn the basics and more: casting, tying knots, gear selection, reading water, and more. After learning to fly fish, anglers will understand why so many people return and fish with us every year. Bozeman and Big Sky, Montana are on everyone's fly fishing list. Year-round fishing exists in both areas and an abundance of fishing options can make planning a trip tough - just when and where to be on a given day is hard to know. Let your GRG guide do that for you. Our hotel fly fishing packages offer the most in flexibility. Because you are not tied to a lodge's fishing program you can plan, with your guide, the best fishing possible. One day fish a private spring creek, the next wherever - if the wind is howling up the Madison, call an audible and head to the upper Missouri.

Over the years we've found many of our clients love the five-start dining that a lodge can offer, but want the flexibility in fishing and the access we have to the best waters. They learned that by going to a lodge they are sometimes forced into being a part of everyone's fishing program. Now they don't have to. With our guides and our private chefs, our clients can fish early or late; far or near; fish the same river two days in a row if they want; all while coming back each evening to their own private vacation rental. These packages are intimate with only your group, your guides, and your private chef. These have become so popular with our clients that we are now forced to post them on the Internet.

We can run these trips out of vacation rentals in Big Sky, near Yellowstone National Park, Bozeman, Livingston, and Paradise Valley, Montana.

You and the Kids Fishing Together

Small Fry Trip

A one hour trip on our stocked spring feed pond for the 10 and under crowd. This trip is designed to introduce kids to the joys of fishing. Instructors will take the young fisherkids out back of our shop to our ponds for fun introduction to casting, aquatic life, and the joy of time spent outdoors! We limit this trip to 3 fry per guide so the instruction is focused on each child's interest and enjoyment. This trip is about kids and catching fish . . . what could be more basic than that?

Family Pod Trip

Gather the family and get your feet wet. This two hour trip is a fun way to introduce your family to the adventure of fly fishing. This trip starts with casting instruction and casting practice on our private pond and then your guide leads you to the river for guided fishing. On the river, we will help apply your new gained skill to the ultimate thrill of landing one of the Gallatin's famous trout. A great family introduction to the "Quiet Sport" that will lead to a lifetime of memories.
