Our Philosophy
Our philosophy is simple: we make connections.
If it's your first time fly fishing or first time even thinking about fly fishing, we are here to do some hand-holding. If you've already "been there and done that," we are here to point you in a familiar direction. For those ready for some adventure, we are excited to expand your angling horizons.
We've been offering fly fishing services A LONG TIME and in a lot of VERY COOL places. We chose to call Montana home because we love it here - sparkling rivers, days afloat, and a new friend at every boat ramp. In our shop and with our guides, our customer service is the same if you own a three thousand dollar get-up or just need a little info.
We also give back to the rivers and resources from which we make a living. Gallatin River Guides is proud to be one of the leading shops and outfitters in donating to local conservation groups.

Our Story
Gallatin River Guides was founded in 1984 by Steve and Betsey French. For over 28 years the French's ran the shop in Big Sky and offered Montana fly fishing guide services on the rivers of Montana. From the Yellowstone to the Missouri, they got around.
Since the shop's inception, it's garnered the reputation as the premier fly fishing shop in Big Sky, Montana, serving Big Sky locals, visitors, and folks venturing to and from Yellowstone National Park. Within a ninety minute drive of the shop one can fish the Gallatin, the Madison, the Yellowstone, Yellowstone Park, the Missouri, the Paradise Valley Spring Creeks, and more alpine lakes than one can name.
Today, nearly 30 years later, the shop is owned and operated by Patrick and Brandy Straub. The two bring over fifteen years of guiding and outfitting experience to the Big Sky and Yellowstone Park area. Patrick has guided for tiger fish in southern Africa and trout in Chilean Patagonia. Both Patrick and Brandy were raised in Montana and are excited to raise their family in the state they were so lucky to call home for their entire lives.
When not in the shop or guiding, the two can be found exploring the mountains and rivers around Big Sky and Bozeman, Montana. Some of our favorite spots include Chico Hot Springs, Big Sky Resort, Yellowstone National Park, and any place with a view.
